During an Earthquake, you should...

Drop, cover and hold on to a heavy object.
Protect yourself from falling objects.
Stay away from glass windows, bookcases or panels.
Take cover under a heavy object such as a table or desk.
Be sure to cover your face with your arms.
DO NOT GO OUTSIDE UNTIL THE SHAKING STOPS!
If you are outside, stay away from buildings, streetlights or anything that looks like it can fall on you.
If you are building on an earthquake-prone area you should...
Build tall yet flexible buildings, the more flexible a building is the less energy is needed to prevent it from
falling over and collapsing.
Shorter buildings are more susceptible to damage then taller buildings since they are more stiff.
Use a material that can absorb the energy of the earthquake and not transfer the shaking.
Using a base isolator can isolate the base of the building from the earth's movements.
Test the area before building a tall building.
